Flagler County is home to a stretch of beach considered by many as Florida's finest in natural, unspoiled beauty. There are more than 19 miles of uncrowded cinnamon colored sand on Flagler Beach with plenty of room for sports, fishing or just relaxing in the sun. The vibe is low-key and laid-back. You are more likely to see dolphins and turtles than rowdy spring breakers, and entertainment comes in the form of the colorful characters who populate the town.

Fishing Flagler:
They don’t call Florida the "Fishing Capital of the World" for nothing! The Sunshine State boasts superb weather year round with 2,276 miles of tidal shoreline and more than 11,000 miles of rivers, streams and waterways. Here you can be sure you’re always within reach of a place to drop your line. A diversity of sport fishes await you with plenty of coastline for surf fishing and a variety of rivers, lakes and estuaries available for brackish and fresh water fishing.
Those fishing off the Flagler Beach Municipal Pier don’t need to worry about purchasing a fishing license as their admission to fish off the pier includes their fishing license for the day while fishing from the pier. There’s also no shortage of boat and kayak launches for those wanting to spend the day on the water. No boat? No problem. Call one of our spectacular charter captains for a day you’ll never forget.
In order to fish in the State of Florida you have to purchase a permit to fish in fresh and/or saltwater. You can buy them at the Tax Collectors office, online or at most bait shops; however, additional charges may apply if the permits are purchased outside of the Tax Collectors office.

Biking Flagler:
Biking is second nature here in Flagler County, Florida. With more than 100 miles of trails to choose from with a variety of different levels, there is something for everyone. Florida’s nearly perfect year-round weather invites cyclists to hit the roads and trails regularly, and bicycling in Palm Coast and Flagler Beach is a growing sport.

Gamble Rogers -
We offer bicycles for rent for both adults and children. We welcome you to ride through our park. Enjoy the serenity of the Intracoastal Waterway. Feel free to ride through the back of the park, however, some areas have softer surfaces, so caution is advised. A sidewalk following the side of A1A is also a highly used bike path. This sidewalk runs the length of Flagler Beach and runs down to Ormond. Many bicyclists use our park as a nice place to catch their breath, take a break and get some fresh air. Please don't hesitate to contact our park or stop by and inquire about our future projects that may be of interest to you. Helmets are highly recommended for all cyclists and Florida law requires helmets for cyclists age 16 and under.
Graham Swamp Preserve -
This trail is 6.5 miles of technical riding, making good use of the ridges and valleys to provide a constant elevation challenge. Off-road riding opportunities are also expanding in the area with the push from a newly organized off-road cycling club. The second trail completed in Palm Coast is just the first from the club. It’s located along the coast in the Hammock area, known as the Mala Compra trail. Looking for an easier ride? Many of the parks offer paved trails like the St. Joe Walkway / Linear Park with scenic Intracoastal views as well as those of the maritime forest and hardwood hammock.
The Lehigh Trail -
Lehigh Trail is located in Flagler County on approximately eight miles of abandoned railroad corridor, comprising 194.95 acres. The Trail parallels the Lehigh Canal for much of its length and extends from U.S. 1 north of Bunnell through the town center of Palm Coast, through Graham Swamp, and ends at Colbert Lane immediately west of the old Lehigh Portland Cement Company. Additional access and parking is available off of Belle Terre Pkwy. and US 1. This trail provides cyclists, and in-line skaters a taste of wild Florida and some of the best scenery in the county. Trees surround the trail virtually the entire distance. There are only two grade crossings at Old Kings Road and Belle Terre Parkway.
Mala Compra Greenway Trail-
This 5.5 mile single track mountain bike trail is found off of Scenic A1A in the Hammock. The trail head starts at Bings Landing and is slow technical ride with challenging climbs, quick descents, tight inclined turns and is followed by several miles of flowing switchbacks. Parking is across the street at Bings Landing.
Hike Flagler:
Along Scenic A1A on one of the prettiest stretches of oceanfront on the Atlantic Coast, the historic seaside community of Flagler Beach is the anchor of an array of natural lands that offer recreation opportunities by the sea and along inland waterways. Historic sites, ancient forests, and excellent birding are part of the mix.
Gamble Rogers - Geo-Caching
Geocaching is an outdoor game using hand-held global positioning systems (GPS) devices. It's effectively an inexpensive, interactive, high-tech treasure hunt that's a great way to learn geography. Participants use location coordinates to find caches. Some caches are easy to find; others are more difficult. The biggest reward is the thrill of the search and the discovery of a place where you have never been.

Joe Kenner - Hiking Nature Trail
Joe Kenner Nature Trail is a three-quarter-mile long hiking trail through a coastal hammock towards the Intracoastal Waterway. The trail has several benches and interpretive signs. This is a great opportunity for exercise and wildlife viewing. This trail is a little rugged. We recommend comfortable but sturdy shoes, sunscreen, bug spray, a hat and something to drink.
Canoeing and Kayaking Flagler:
Grab your canoe or kayak (or rent one) and come enjoy a day of paddling fun in Flagler County. Choose from a variety of different launch sites taking you out into tranquil creeks, estuaries, lakes and even the Atlantic Ocean.

Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area has single or tandem style kayaks and canoes available for rent! Canoes and kayaks can be launched from the boat ramp that easily leads to the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. Go by the ranger station to rent by the hour or by the day!

Bulow Creek Paddling Trail -
Bulow Creek is a trip back into Florida history as well as an opportunity to explore a coastal marsh. The put-in is near Ormond Beach at the Bulow Plantation State Historic Site. This site is a relic of the early 1800s when a number of sugar plantations dotted the Florida Atlantic Coast. These plantations were burned and abandoned during the Second Seminole War.

Birding in Flagler:
Birding continues to be one of the most popular activities in the county. It’s always the right time to go birding in Flagler County, Florida. Visitors can keep their eyes to the skies while exploring our 40+ parks and preserves to experience many of the birds that call themselves Florida natives and others that are just passing through. Six of Flagler County, Florida's trails are listed on the Great Florida Birding Trail which boasts a myriad of birding opportunities you are sure to enjoy.
If you are an enthusiast, you’ll be happy to know that you can find more than 200 species of birds here in the area. You’re sure to spot many Bald Eagles throughout Palm Coast; however, Princess Place Preserve is one park that is home to a nest. Ever-popular shorebirds can be found on our beaches and throughout our parks and preserves. If you’re looking for guidance, you’ll find it with the Flagler County Audubon Society. This organization is a great resource for beginning and experienced birders. So go grab a beginner’s book and some binoculars for a fun and educational outing with your family.
Horseback Riding Flagler:
Get away from it all and ride our trails in the Princess Place Preserve. Enjoy the natural beauty of Old Florida. Combined with St. Johns River Water Management District's Pellicer Creek Corridor lands and the Florida Agricultural Museum lands, you can explore over 13 miles of marked equestrian trails. Princess Place Preserve offers an equestrian trailhead with ample parking, restrooms with showers, and a primitive tent camping area for equestrians. Coggins papers required.
Visit the unique land bridge that spans Interstate 95, connecting the Florida Agricultural Museum lands with those of the Pellicer Creek Corridor. This bridge is solely for equestrian, hiking, and wild animal use and is one of two in the entire nation.
Recreation Tips for Equestrians:

Have a first aid kit for both you and your horse. Include a snake bite and bee sting kit.

Do not leave food out while you are away from camp.
-
Have the right equipment and clothing for primitive travel and for the season of the year.

As you are riding, you should look at the trail behind you on occasion. In the event that you are lost or need to backtrack, it will not look as different and confusing.
Ethics on the Trail:

Pack out what you pack in.
-
Ride and camp only where permitted. With so much land and facilities available, it is not necessary to be somewhere that you shouldn't be without permission.

Do not ride in any areas or any trails restricted to horses. There is a reason for the restriction and it is usually due to safety, to reduce conflicts, or to provide usage for other types of recreation such as hiking.
-
Do not tie horses to small trees. This will damage vegetation. It is better to use hobbles, pickets, or picket lines.

Scatter manure and smooth areas when breaking camp.
-
All horses should have a current negative Coggins test.
-
Stay on designated trails. Do not remove or rearrange trail markers.

As always, courtesy is imperative.

Forest bathing is the practice of taking a short, leisurely visit to a forest for health benefits. It originated in Japan where it's called shinrin-yoku (森林浴)
The therapeutic benefits of forest bathing may be difficult to fully explain, but most likely, the green scenery, soothing sounds of streams & waterfalls, & natural aromas of wood, plants & flowers in these complex ecosystems all play a part.
