Today (The 5th of november) is Guy Fawkes Day here in the UK, for all our USA friends its the guy in V for Vendetta... the one played by the guy from The Matrix...

Bonfire Night is held across the UK on 5th November and is traditionally celebrated by setting off fireworks and burning a ‘Guy’ (man made of straw or paper and old clothes) on a bonfire.

This event held annually on 5th November commemorates the gunpowder plot of 1605 when a group of Catholics plotted to assassinate the Protestant King James (known as James I of England and James VI of Scotland) by blowing up the Houses of Parliament in London. The plan failed and the plotters were found guilty of high treason and were hung, drawn and quartered. Guy Fawkes, the man in charge of the explosives, became the most notorious of the group. Bonfire Night is sometimes referred to as Guy Fawkes Night, and the straw man or ‘Guy’ that is traditionally burnt on the bonfire is named after him.
Remember remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder treason and plot,
I see no reason why gunpowder treason ..
should ever be forgot.
This being our one chance to experience a bonfire night we bundled up and walked all the way to the top of the Craiglockhart Preserve in the dark (with plenty of others don't worry) to get a hilltop view of the city and the dozens (literally) of home, city, beach, hilltop fireworks displays happening all over the city. They were small to us (and didn't show up to well on camera) but were still brilliant! The sound was amazing, 360 firework booms from Edinburgh Castle to the Bayfront to Glasgow! And you could see little bonfires lit up in back yards as far as you could see! It was cold but truely a fun experience!

Here is a time lapse image from the summit, all the little blinking lights are fireworks all over the city...
Here is the view from the other side of Craiglockhart Campus...

With cold noses and a sleepy pup we headed home :)

More soon!
