Practice Makes Perfect

Hello all!

Today was practice day for the racers, so we decided to take an easy start. After a nice sleep in, we made our way downtown to find out what was going on. There is one problem with Montreal, it is built on a weird magnetic field which disrupts every sense of direction you have. We wandered through the village, and after finding mostly restaurants and bars that were not open yet, we went and tried to find the Latin Quarter. A few wrong turns, some time spent looking at a map, and deciding Montreal makes no sense, we stumbled into the Latin Quarter.

Burgers and "frites" for lunch. For some reason, there is one food that we have not been able to find replicated as well as done back home, and that is the hamburger. The fries, or "frites" in French, were delicious, perfectly cooked, nice and crispy, but the compressed meat patty was a bit dry and not up to proper burger standards. This does not diminish the fact that stopping back for a cone of fries is something that is a high probability.

Lunch was followed by a trip back on the metro and out to the island in the St. Lawrence River to watch Round "deux", or two, of practice.

Our seats are great, we get to watch the drivers come out from the starting straightaway and into the first set of turns which happen to be a nice S-turn. They then speed away down the track, engines blaring and the crowd holding their breath until they roar of engines gets louder and closer.

Though it was only practice, Lewis Hamilton was a top form and is looking quite smooth compared to the rest of pack. A few hours later and it was time to hike our stiff backsides home. The park that hosts the track is quite nice, with marsh land and open spaces abundant. Upon arriving home and discussing dinner, it was decided that with sore feet, take away was the best option. So after too much Indian food, we decided to call it quits for tomorrows adventure of qualifiers.

More soon!
