Happy Holidays!

Hello all!

Today we got a chance to get into the holiday spirit even though in the states we'd be gearing up for Thanksgiving. In Scotland we are skipping straight to Christmas. We have heard that one of the best times to be in Edinbirgh is during the Christmas holiday, and have been looking forward to putting that claim to the test. Our first chance was the annual lighting of the Christmas lights down on St. George's Street near Edinburgh castle.

Even though the days are getting shorter and it has been getting dark pretty early, in this case it paid off. The lighting ceremony and fireworks show were scheduled for 4:30 to 5:00 pm leaving us plenty of time to get home and have dinner and do the obligatory round of homework.

When we got there, we found performance stages lining St. George Street each with their own assortment of holiday performers helping to lead up to the big celebration. First we made our way over to the red stage where one of Lili's classmates was scheduled to perform with his Indian dance troupe. They didn't disappoint and put on quite a show.

We had fun going from stage to stage in the runup to the fireworks.

Lili and Andrew met one of their friends Cash and his friend Morven to begin the cold wait for the countdown with some tea and hot chocolate. Next we made our way over towards St. Andrew Square and took part in the countdown.

After the lights had been turned on and the oooo's and aaaaahhhh's subsided, we made our way down towards the Edinburgh Christmas village.

However, upon being met by throngs of people that would make even Disney jealous, we all decided perhaps the village was better visited on a weeknight, and with that we ended an extremely pleasent afternoon of fun, friends, and frivolity.

We look forward to much more to come.

More soon!
