Hello all!
It was one heck of a foggy day here in Edinburgh! Aside from being freezing... literally... the weather decided to mimic the traditional post holiday funk everyone experiences by being chilly, damp and very foggy!
On the plus side, damp does not mean it was raining, a destinction we have learned to recognize since moving here and more importantly there was no wind!! (insert happy dance here). This being the case we decided to go for a hike with the pup and see what we could, or more likely couldn't see from the lookout above the city.
We bundled up in our best gear, even including some new Christmas presents, and headed out.
Once in the elements we realized how cold it had become just overnight. The weather channel has been talking about the UK getting some snow this weekend but even today the amount of frost and frozen puddles gave us a good idea of how the thermometer was gauging.
The hike was actually remarkably nice, the lack of gale force winds was a welcome change. Once you got going the cold went from numbing to refreshing... untill you stopped of course, then, as you lost the ability to feel your face, you remembered to get moving again.
Being that we were gaining elevation the fog became more condensed, the ariel views we usually enjoy now looked like white outs.
Audry was still able to make a few friends and we were even suprised to see a few dedicated golfers braving the elements... ball? what ball?
As we desended back towards home we remarked on how quiet the city was. Today is boxing day here in the UK, a holiday known for crazy sales and extravagent crowds at retail establishments but is also a day all city and government buisnesses are closed, even banks and charity shops! So there was little to no traffic on the roads and combined with the mist made everything look like a bit of a dream scape.
All the better to give into some post holiday laziness, clean the mud from the paws and bring on the jammies!!
